Original 744
Ambulance 744 was a 1979, stripped, 4wheel drive Ford truck chassis with a body
bought and mounted by the Squad for use in "off the road" situations. All the
equipment, lights, and furnishings were also purchased separately, and installed
by the members. The "project" was supervised by Herman Lambertz, who did all the
machining and metal work at his machine shop in Paterson.
At the time, there were many nonpaved dirt "roads" in Milton which were not
very accessible with the ambulances of the day. Since the Squad was not able to
afford buying a vehicle of this type, it was decided to build one ourselves. 744
proved a very wise investment on many occasions on snowy and muddy dirt roads in
Milton. A couple of times 744 was even used to pull Police cars out that were
stuck at the scene.
744 had been loctated at police headquaters. It was recently
sold.
